Among 26 of the Most Important Films in the Arab Cinema during the Past Two Years

Ayten Amin's Villa 69 Part of the Arab Film Festival in Brazil

Ayten Amin's cinematic hit Villa 69 competes at the 9th Arab Film Festival in Brazil (ICArabe), which opened on August 13th, 2014, and will continue till December 16th, 2014. The film will have three screenings within the Contemporary Egyptian Films selection.

Sponsored by the Institute for Arab Culture (ICArabe), based in San Paulo, the Arab Film Festival screens 26 films from the most important Arab films presented during the past two years; aiming generally at opening a new cultural and social venue to the Arab cinema among Brazilian audience, whereas, this year's installment focuses on highlighting human relationships within Arab communities.

Co-written by Mohamed Al Hag and Mahmoud Ezzat, Villa 69 is Ayten'sfeature directorial debut. Produced by Wael Omar's Middlewest Films, and Mohamed Hefzy´s Film Clinic, the film stars Khaled Abol Naga, Arwa Gouda and veteran actress Lebleba.

Villa 69 participates in the Arab Film Festival through MAD Solutions,in collaboration with ICArabe, as part of the company's line-up screenings of 6 films produced and promoted by MAD during the past two years.

The Egyptian feature Villa 69 had its world premiere in the 7th Abu Dhabi Film Festival in November 2013, where it received the Special Jury Award for a Film from the Arab World, within New Horizons Competition.

Villa 69 follows Hussein, a man living in isolation in his house. Characters from his past begin to invade his solitary lifestyle; his life witnesses drastic changes following the encounter with his sister and nephew, Seif. As a result, gradual and yet radical changes in his dogmatic view of life begin to emerge.

Ayten Amin was the recipient of the Cairo Film Connection Prize within the frame work of Cairo International Film Festival in 2010 for the script of her film Villa 69. The project has also won a development fund prize from Hubert Bals Fund at International Film Festival Rotterdam and was part of the official selection in Pavilion des Cinemas Du Monde, Cannes Film Festival 2011.
